Alexandria Industries Breaks Ground on Expansion to House New Extrusion Press

Alexandria Industries broke ground on the construction of a 12,000 sq ft building expansion to house a new extrusion press at its headquarters in Alexandria, Minnesota. The press will increase extrusion capacity at the site by 30%, increase capabilities for more complex profile shapes, and hold tighter tolerances. It will be used to manufacture components in a variety of alloys.

“By combining the latest in aluminum extrusion technology with the best employees, we will continue to lead our industry,” said Tom Schabel, CEO, Alexandria Industries. “This investment also aligns with our company vision and commitment to excellence. The new system will provide robust extruded aluminum components for our customers, while providing us continued business growth into the future.”

Alexandria is known for supplying complex, customized aluminum extrusions, as well as finishing, assembly, and welding services. The company is working with press supplier, Presezzi Extrusion Group in Vimercate, Italy, to design the press to meet its specific needs. The press will be equipped with the latest automation and mechanical technology, including a state-of-the-art, magnetic billet heating system — the first of its kind in the U.S. and the fifth installed anywhere in the world. New automation, quench, and safety management systems will support the site in increasing extrusion production 30%, while an automated log handling and washing system will improve production efficiencies and profile quality. It will also provide Alexandria with the ability to push harder alloys, providing access to new market opportunities

“We are delighted to be working with Alexandria Industries to provide our latest advancements in extrusion system technologies,” said Bruno Donada, area manager, Presezzi Extrusion Group. “The company’s collaborative culture fits perfectly with the way we run our business. This new partnership will generate business opportunities in the high-value aluminum extrusion industry for both companies.”
